In the Canadian healthcare system, discrimination against Indigenous patients continues to be a significant issue. Improving access and improving care requires innovative solutions to promote cultural competence and a patient-centric approach, as well as empathy and understanding. In partnership with Trent University and eCampus Ontario, we developed a scripted Virtual Reality (VR) learning experience to address this challenge head on.

Sandbox collaborated with nursing faculty and Indigenous filmmakers to craft a VR experience that immerses learners in realistic scenarios with Indigenous patients. By navigating these experiences, learners enhance their empathy, critical thinking, and self-reflection skills, ultimately improving the quality of care and fostering a more inclusive healthcare environment.
